TRFA Research Award

The Grand Prize winner of the 9th Annual Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award has been decided!

  • Jian Gao, Drexel University for his paper "Highly Ductile Epoxy Systems Obtained by Network Topology Modification Using Partially Reacted Substructures"

The Academic Panel also selected 2 Honorable Mentions for the 9th Annual Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award.

  • Hamidreza Asemani, Eastern Michigan University for his paper "Design and Evaluation of High Performance Hybrid Thermoset Coatings using Multi-Functional Non-Isocyanate Polyurethanes"
  • Brendan R. Ondra, University of Massachusetts Amherst for his paper "Formulation Effects on the Physical Aging Behavior of Epoxy-Based Glassy Thermosets"

TRFA is sponsoring Epoxy 101 on February 6, 9 am to 10:30 am, presented by Dr. Roy Kelly, Olin Corporation.

TRFA members enjoy a discounted registration fee of $85 to attend the class if registered by December 11, 2019 ($125 after December 11) and a discounted fee for the Exhibit Hall of $65 if registered before January 17, 2019 (increasing to $95 online and $105 onsite). 

This course will introduce the basic chemistry of epoxy and how it can be cured. The pros and cons compared to other chemistries will be discussed in addition to how to select appropriate products based on specific applications.

Topics include:

• Basic chemistry and curing mechanism of epoxy
• Benefits and issues when using epoxy systems
• Current trends and future of the epoxy industry
• Applications and selection criteria for epoxy in construction
• Environmental health and safety when handling epoxy
