Glen Ellyn, IL -- The Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) invites the submission of Technical Papers for presentation at the association's 2007 Annual Meeting to be held September 9-11 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, Savannah, Georgia.

Technical Paper presentations are essential to meeting one of the association's key objectives, which is to be "the premier forum to interact and exchange knowledge among formulators and suppliers." The 2007 Annual Meeting schedule will include at least three technical paper presentations from each of TRFA's Market Focused Product Groups: Coatings, Civil Engineering and Floorings; Adhesives and Sealants; Composites and Tooling; and Potting, Encapsulation and Electrical. Additional papers will be chosen by TRFA’s Non-Epoxy Committee, underscoring its commitment to serving the needs and interests of all thermoset formulators.

Technical Papers are chosen based on their technical content, the timeliness of the subject, and relevance to TRFA members and the industry. Attendees at the 2006 Annual Meeting in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, enjoyed sixteen technical paper presentations. Six of the sixteen presentations focused on non-epoxy chemistries.

Persons interested in submitting a Technical Paper for consideration should contact the association at (630)942-6596 or info@trfa.org to request a Technical Paper Packet for the 2007 Annual Meeting.

TRFA Launches VOC Task Force

Glen Ellyn, IL – The Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) has formed a VOC Task Force to address industry concerns over VOC requirements in California, Virginia and several northeast states and how they affect the use and distribution of the industry's products and the necessity for an EPA test more appropriate to this industry.

The Task Force is working under the guidance of Charlie Bartish, Air Products & Chemicals, TRFA’s regulatory affairs representative. Task Force members include Derek Kincaid of Huntsman, Charlie Zarnitz of CVC Specialty Chemicals and Tom Geriak of Garland Flooring.

TRFA has established a roster of active, market-focused committees designed to meet the needs of a broad range of thermoset technologies, including non-epoxies. They are Adhesives and Sealants; Coatings, Civil Engineering and Flooring; Composites and Tooling; and Potting, Encapsulation and Electrical. A Non-Epoxy Committee was launched in 2005. Membership in the association has grown increasingly valuable as the benefits stack up. One of the most beneficial aspects of association membership is the voice and authority it gives to a regulatory issue such as VOC requirements.

In addition to annual meetings and industry-specific programming, TRFA members benefit from access to Formulator and Supplier Market Trend Information, additional Internet visibility for member companies with links from the TRFA member list to member websites, quarterly newsletters, a Members-Only section on the TRFA website with access to a member address book, a list of Testing Standards for TRFA, minutes, technical presentations and other TRFA-specific information, important and timely regulatory updates affecting material suppliers and formulators, and the opportunity to deepen established industry and professional relationships and develop new ones with industry participants who can provide information on issues of common concern.

TRFA encourages the participation of interested companies and their application for membership. Prospective members include thermoset formulators, raw material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, consulting firms and academic institutions serving industries which include adhesives, coatings, civil engineering applications, electrical laminates, composites, tooling, castings and moldings. To learn more about TRFA, or to join this growing organization, please visit the website at www.trfa.org or contact the association at (630) 942-6596.

TRFA:  “We’re Much More Than Epoxies!”

Glen Ellyn, IL – “We’re much more than epoxies!” identifies the broader range of industry interests addressed by the formation of the Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) in 2003.   TRFA has also launched a new, Non-Epoxy Committee to meet the needs of formulators practicing thermoset technologies other than epoxies.

Established in response to input from both current and potential members, the charter of the committee is to identify how TRFA can implement its broader focus, and support the efforts of formulators of a variety of thermoset chemistries. The Non-Epoxy Committee offers another opportunity for TRFA participants to grow their marketplace. TRFA is the only organization dedicated to serving the needs and interests of all thermoset formulators and has a broader focus than just epoxy.  In fact, the association has posted a number of photos of non-epoxy thermoset resin applications on its website, www.trfa.org.

Other chemistries that TRFA represents include polyester and vinyl esther composites, urethane, silicone, acrylic and phenolics. Steve Nolet of TPI Composites is already scheduled to present a non-epoxy Technical Paper at the 2006 Annual Meeting, September 10 – 12 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  The committee is actively soliciting additional papers.

TRFA’s Non-Epoxy Committee is chaired by Melanie Bisaccio, Cognis Corporation. Participating on this new committee are Jim Steever, Rebus Inc.; Darrel Bryant, Material Apps LLC; Jason Tuerack, Broadview Technology; Marc-Antoine Pierre-Louis, Sealrez Inc.; Steve Nolet, TPI Composites; Al DeCato, Henkel Loctite; and Chris Andreola, Cabot Corporation.

TRFA membership continues to grow increasingly valuable as the benefits stack up, and none of them is as valuable as the insight gained by members who invest the time in their business and industry by joining a committee.

TRFA Offers Trial Memberships

Glen Ellyn, IL – The Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) Board of Directors has announced the availability of a reduced-cost "trial" membership in the association for the rest of 2005. Companies choosing to join TRFA now pay only 25% of their annual membership dues for the rest of 2005.

TRFA’s Board of Directors believes the trial membership will give company representatives a chance to attend the 2005 Annual Meeting in New Orleans at the member rate and experience firsthand the value of membership in the only association of  thermoset formulators, raw material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, consulting firms and academic institutions serving industries which include adhesives, coatings, civil engineering applications, electrical laminates, composites, tooling, castings and moldings. The board believes that, once “sampled,” industry leaders will see the many benefits of TRFA membership and choose to maintain that industry relationship.

Members receive far more than they invest

The benefits of TRFA membership continue to grow. They include participation in Market-Focused Committees helping members target the marketplace in which their company has the greatest interest, the Formulator Market Trend Survey, the Supplier Market Trend survey, the annual industry forum, shared technology in a growing body of technical paper presentations, an industry-specific marketplace at the annual Table Top Showcase, and money-saving members-only programs like Solveras Payment Systems which provides members with the latest credit card processing technology.

However, members say the most valuable membership benefit is peer-shared information. Many members say the exceptional networking opportunities of the Market-Focused Committees and the Annual Meetings make TRFA membership essential to business for them and their company. The knowledge base of peer-shared information among TRFA members is key to the profitability of member companies and the association’s most important membership benefit.

In addition, the Supplier Showcase held in conjunction with the TRFA Annual Meeting gives attendees the opportunity to meet face-to-face on a level playing field. The industry offers no other comparable opportunity!

The list of specific membership benefits now includes:

  • Significant savings on the registration fees for the TRFA Annual Meeting. Right now those savings amount to at least $200 for first and second time attendees and $500 for attendees registering for their third annual meeting. These savings are compounded when multiple attendees from more than one company register for the annual meeting.
  • Additional financial savings when they participate in the Solveras Payment Systems program, offered through their TRFA membership. Solveras offers TRFA members the latest credit card processing technology, negotiated group discounts and a full range of processing options designed to meet their business’s unique payment needs, including a secure virtual terminal that allows participants to manage transactions from any computer with Internet access.
